Houston
Houston has an extensive history of supporting its affordable housing needs. The city’s commitment to its low-to-moderate income residents can be seen in the significant public housing developments of the past. Houston has historically been considered a relatively affordable housing market compared to other major US cities. However, rising housing costs and market rates have created a challenging environment for its low-to-moderate income citizens. Houston has a storied history of bouncing back from adversity and will do so again. By collaborating with Su Casa and other CHDO partners, Houston will deliver its affordable housing needs while providing community services such as down-payment assistance, education and wellness services to its underserved communities. The city has received significant federal funding, including Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), to support housing rehabilitation, demolition, and public services aimed at low-to-moderate-income residents. The City of Houston offers a variety of programs, services and grants aimed directly at its commitment to service the affordable housing needs of its city.
